The Stono River County Park project is located in Johns Island within Charleston County. The property abuts the tidal Stono River and saltmarsh habitats. The park includes a marsh boardwalk leading to an island in the marshes of the Stono River, island trails with a view of the Limehouse Bridge and the Stono River, restrooms, picnic areas, and drinking fountains; accessible to the public through the Charleston County Parks program.
We aided in obtaining a Nationwide Permit 18 authorization from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, which permitted the construction of the internal roadways and parking accommodations on the site. Fieldwork conducted included a wetland jurisdictional determination and a threatened and endangered species survey. The Nationwide Permit authorization required coordination with the project design team and U.S. Army Corps of Engineers staff. Other services included obtaining a Critical Area Permit from the South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control Office of Ocean and Coastal Resource Management (OCRM) for the construction of the boardwalk within the marshes of the Stono River.
